Harrow CFR's donate Defibrillator to the Community

This Saturday will see Harrow Community First Responders officially present an AED (Defibrillator) to St. Georges Shopping Centre.

Last June, Harrow's Co-Leader, John Jeal, won an award with London Ambulance Service as a recognition of his effort and achievement within the volunteer section of the London Ambulance Service. His Prize was to donate a life saving Defibrillator to a place of his choosing so that lives could be saved. With many spaces considered, it was decided that St. Georges was an area that had thousands of visitors every day and would benefit greatly from the life saving equipment.

Early access to a defibrillator in a cardiac arrest can increase a patients survival by as much as 80% compared to CPR alone. Every minute counts though, so by having an AED in the shopping centre with staff on hand (who have now been trained by the London Ambulance Service), it could mean many more lives are saved in Harrow.

At 10am on Saturday 16th January, official presentation of the AED (which is now installed by the lifts in the lower lobby) will commence in a ceremony with the Mayor and Mayoress of Harrow unveiling. London Ambulance Service and Harrow Community First Responders shall remain in St. Georges for the rest of the morning where they shall be demonstrating and teaching CPR to shoppers so that maybe they too could save a life some day. It would be great if you could make it and show your support or even come down to learn CPR anytime throughout the morning.

We look forward to seeing you there!
